Nokia E7 has recently been launched in India. Looking at the features of the phone, even you would call it one of the greatest Business phone from Nokia. You can also call it as the successor of the Communicators [the first being Nokia N9000]. This phone satisfies all the needs of the modern age business users. Let us have a look at some of its awesome features:
Design
You would be awestruck with the design of E7. The design is actually a blend of the design of Nokia N8 and N97. The basic shape is like the N8 and the slide is similar to N97. The front look is so clean that you can not locate the camera above the display. The menu button is place in the middle. On the right you can find the SIM card tray which is tough to be opened using your hands provided you don’t have sharp nails 😛 Below that are the volume buttons which can be slid over to make changes in the volume. The LED lights at the back can be used as flashlight. This feature is also available in Nokia X2 and the E-series.
The top side of the phone has the 3.5mm headphone jack, the mini HDMI port and the microUSB port with a small light aside which turns on when the phone is charged.
The back of the phone is almost barren and has only the camera with dual LED flash covered with Corning Gorilla Glass. It also has the loudspeaker behind. The second microphone at the back allows audio recording when you record videos.
Slider
The slider is something which I like the most in Nokia E7’s design. It just lifts up and falls into its place and gives you a great angle to watch videos. You have some really good tasks which can be done when you slide the phone.
- You can transfer audio from the earphone to the loudspeaker when you slide the phone
- Keyguard can be activated when you close the slider
- Return to homescreen when slider is closed
- When you open the slider in homescreen you can do the following tasks- a new note, new text message, new email, open the menu, launch an application or open a bookmark in the default browser.
Display
The Nokia E7 has a 4.0-inch, 360 x 640 resolution, AMOLED ClearBlack Display. When I say AMOLED, you need not hesitate to use the phone in sunlight 😛 The AMOLED and ClearBlackDisplay glass acts as a polarizing filter and it cuts off the unnecessary reflections when the phone is used in sunlight. It has a resoultion of 360 x 640 on a 4.0-inch display not much different from the N8. I suggest you to go for the Galaxy S if you need a better resoultion of 480 x 800.
As already mentioned, the lens of the camera and the screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass, it makes he phone and the camera scratch resistant.
If you have a look at the pic above, you can find the Keypad to be extremely attractive. It is one of the best Keypads which Nokia could ever provide you. Since the dimension of the phone is large, the functionality of the Keypad is enhanced, truly user friendly and much better for messaging.
Software
It runs on Symbian ^3. It has a few applications but it is no way comparable to the Android or the iOS where you can get plenty of applications. You can also find the best iOS applications at the Best App Ever Awards. As expected in all Nokia phones, the applications would be found in folders which doesn’t make the User Interface much friendly to the user. This is a major reason why people do not prefer Nokia. But if you are not a Geek, you will never agree with my point 😛
Connectivity
It is a GSM 3G handset which supporta HSDPA 10.2Mbps, HSUPA 2Mbps, EDGE Class 32, GPRS Class 32, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v3.0 and A-GPS. You have the Ovi Maps when you use the GPS which is indeed a plus point for Nokia handsets though Android also offers much better maps. You also get a turn by turn voice navigation while using the Ovi Maps. But you should still download the Google Maps for detailed information of places. You can also download BlogoTech’s official application from Ovi Store.
Price and Verdict
The Nokia E7 is available at a price of Rs.29,999 though you may get it for around Rs.28,000 in some shops. I agree that it is much better smartphone than the N97 but I would still recommend Nokia N8 which is available for Rs23,000 with much better camera though you may not get a larger display.
Do you think it is worthy to pay Rs.7,000 extra just for a larger display?
